It allows you to download specific ISO builds of Windows 8. I'm on my Mac at the moment so can't verify this Rufus is a Windows executable but for once I'm trusting my memory. Greetings from the future.
I've confirmed that all the links above point to the same download "Windows10Upgrade I've been brought here because I have installed from a factory restore PC. Then it won't show up in the Windows Update screen, instead I have the green checkbox like everything has been installed but I don't get that warm fuzzy feeling that this PC is properly updated. I've read where 20H2 eventually shows up again Looks like I'm stuck trying to upgrade to 21H1, despite Windows Update thinking the best option is 20H MS logic, I guess.
I discovered this tool after making my previous replies. It has the ability to download older ISOs directly from Microsoft. Works well. I would do what Windows updates I could, and then I would use the media creation tool. The same tool you use to go from 7 to Just choose the option to upgrade this PC. Oh wow, that's slick. It bugs me though that there are duplicated entries for 20H2 v2. Petty, but hey, I'm IT and now I want to explore what bug caused this.
That's just it, This PC only downloaded 3 or 4 updates, one of which was the 20H2 and since that failed the Windows Update thinks it's done. I feel like the engineers didn't anticipate people starting from a factory restore and their rollup-style updates don't play well from that far back in the past. But you're right I've got the Update Assistant installing 21H1 as we speak.
Here's to hoping it works. That works. I think the media creation tool is pretty much the same thing. I had a Windows 7 media center edition machine and it wouldn't do the upgrade assistant because that's not part of the upgrade path I guess.
The solution? Media creation tool and upgrade this PC now. I may have even made the ISO with the tool and mounted it. I think that tool works differently than the upgrade assistant. I don't think I've ever had it fail. If you just factory restored, do you have any data?
Why not just boot off of Win 20H2 installation media and kill the partitions and start from scratch? There's nothing better than a squeaky clean install.
